This conference, jointly proposed by three universities from southern Europe, aims to prompt a renewed discussion of the imaginative consequence of Shakespeare’s work in the cultures of the Romance languages. Starting off from contributions by guest writers and academics, the conference will have literary texts (in any genre) for its main focus, but will also be considering instances of imaginative production in non-verbal media, emerging from cultural frameworks whose dominant expression is a Romance language.
The organisers welcome proposals for 20-minute papers in English responding to the above. Suggested topics include (in every case, involving the Romance cultures):
* dramatic / narrative / lyrical rewritings of Shakespeare
* Shakespearean characters / Shakespeare as character: literary afterlives
* biography and / as fiction: testing the boundaries
* staging him: Shakespeare in the performing arts
* screening him: Shakespeare’s work on film, television, or digital media
* setting him: Shakespeare in/and music
* sending him up: burlesques of the Bard
Please include the following information with your proposal:
• the full title of your paper;
• a 250-300-word abstract;
• name, postal address and e-mail address;
• institutional affiliation and position;
• a short bionote;
• AV requirements (if any)
